PIL on OSX

i'm really interested in PIL so that the Django ImageField and tools like photologue will support jpg uploads. There are a lot of other recipes out there for example Joost. The problems this fails for a lot of machines indeed there are a couple of posts like this out there i've tried them but they also fail with alarming regularity. The easy way is just use the package. MacPython Just download the binary (DMG) which has support for zlib,jpg-6b and freetype. Simply double click to install. I was getting many references to the PPC architecture which according to the post you have to manually edit from lib/pythonX.Y/config/Makefile.
